From Seed Savers Exchange: "Staff favorite for taste as a shelling and dry bean in 2013! Pole bean. Green stems and leaves. Dark pink flowers. Pods green with purple blush when flat, yellow with purple stripes and blush at shelling stage, leathery-podded when dry. Pods are round in diameter, slightly curved, with long, downward curving beak. Mature pods 6-10" long, 0.4-0.7" wide. Weak string when flat, fully expanded pods becoming fibrous. Very good as a snap bean when flat. As a shelling bean, easily shelled, slightly sweet, buttery, rich flavor. 5-8 seeds per pod. Seeds kidney shaped, gray with purple mottling wash, dark stripes. Dry beans have a unique, sweet, earthy flavor with smoky undertones. Smooth texture. Late maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Mark Reusser (ONT RE M). Originally given to Reusser by his great-aunt Erma Cressman. Erma recounted that it was grown by her grandmother Bechtel as early as 1900 in Waterloo County, Ontario. SSE Accession # 105743."
