"54 days. [Heirloom from the J. C. Metze family of Newberry, SC, offered by Parks Seed in the 1960s.] Rattlesnake type. Lovely olive green pods speckled with purple. Tasty pods at any stage, even when large. The seeds remain small in the pods for a long time; it is the meat of the bean that thickens, giving you a real mouthful. Small beans are excellent eaten raw. Older, thicker beans make a great meat substitute in vegetarian meals."
